CHEATING CHEATERS
John Patrck
Directors:
Ashley Garst & Katie Hazel
Auditions
TBA
Showdates:
The 2012 July Show for the HCT is the comedy "Cheating Cheaters" by well known playwright John Patrick. A truly funny and warm-hearted new play by one of the American theatre's comedic masters. This time the action involves the hilarious adventures of two lovably larcenous sisters who impersonate begging nuns in order to put their niece through art school—at least until the police catch up with them and their virtuous ward pays an unexpected visit.
Faced with the responsibility of looking after their orphaned niece, Theresa and Angelica, two middle-aged sisters, have settled on the idea of impersonating begging nuns in order to send Tania to art school in Europe, but as the play begins they have run into double trouble: An agile young cat burglar is about to make off with their ill-gotten gains; and a suspicious policeman has followed Theresa (and her collection bucket) home. However all is not as desperate as it seems, as the personable young thief happens to be a medical student who steals to pay his tuition (and is willing to consider alternative means of fund raising) while the cop, as it turns out, is also not above taking what he can on the side.
So the four join forces for some inspired larceny and things go swimmingly—or do until the supposedly saintly Tania turns up unannounced. Trying to hide the truth from their niece, Theresa and Angelica decide to "go straight," which also, unfortunately, means going broke and results in a series of hilarious misunderstandings. In the end, however, it develops that Tania is not quite the paragon her aunts believed her to be—but the confession of her own misdeeds (she is an accomplished art forger) is steadily forgiven when she also reveals that the rather considerable earnings from her illegal activities are merrily piling up interest in a Swiss bank!
Ashley Garst and Katie Hazel co-direct the show which runs six shows in July .

Gun-Shy
Richard Dresser

Dave Stokesbary

Showdates:
August 19, 2012 matinee at 2:00
The August Show for the HCT 2012 Season will be the comedy “Gun-Shy” by Richard Dresser.
Remember your first marriage? It's back. Gun-Shy is a no-holds-barred comedy about marriage, divorce, infidelity, infertility, incompatibility, eternal love, household accidents, and diets no one should try. New York Magazine calls Gun-Shy "a Private Lives for our time."
Evie and Duncan have divorced after 15 years. Evie is having a wild, tumultuous affair with an aggressively insecure coffee salesman named Carter. Duncan finds himself with Caitlin, a young, extremely, weight-conscious gun-control lobbyist. "The foursome, all beyond therapy, eventually become snowbound in a New England cabin where they attempt to unravel the maze of their mismatched couplings.
When the dust clears, Evie and Duncan's divorce is in shambles and true love endures.
Variety wrote: "Gun-Shy, Dresser's edgy comedy about a divorced couple whose separation proves as unsuccessful as their marriage, features the playwright's wonderfully barbed dialogue and characters whose quirks never stay into cartoon-land… Dresser's one-liners hit the comic mark. Acerbic barbs accumulate with the density of the ongoing blizzard.”

HONEYMOON AT GRAVESDIE MANOR
Pat Cook
Director:
Michael Shoopman
Auditions
Aug 20th & 21st at 6-7pm
Showdates:
October 21, 2012 matinee at 2:00
This year’s Annual Dessert Theatre will be the farce "Honeymoon at Gravesdie Manor" by Pat Cook.
Marian Thorncraft is looking forward to her honeymoon with new hubby, Tyler. She pictures someplace romantic, secluded and cozy. No sooner have her feet touched the ground after being carried over the threshold than she discovers her love nest is really a one-time mortuary!
Graveside Manor, as the locals call it, has been abandoned for years, mainly due to the rumors of it being haunted. Cozy as a bat cave, it's about as secluded as Grand Central Station. A daffy maid shows up to clean the place and gets lost in the catacombs behind the walls. This goes unnoticed because Tyler is too busy ducking a female ghost with a hatchet, three high-school kids trying to set up a Halloween prank and his wise-cracking female editor who once had a crush on him.
Throw in an absent-minded cop and the escaped lunatic he's looking for and the stage is set for a Honeymoon at Graveside Manor.

The show is directed by Michael Shoopman. "Although I've done plenty of heavy drama (Wit, Scotland Road, etc), by now most folks know I relish doing dark comedies and twisted stories; Either making folks laugh or scaring the crap out of them. The frosting on that little cupcake is doing both at once."

December 14th-15th, 2012 at 7:00
December 16th, 2012 matinee at 2:00
This year’s Annual Christmas Special will be the fantasy "Why Penguins Can't Fly and Other Tales from Antartica" by T. James Belich.
This is Director Shoopman's second foray into the works of T. James Belich. He directed Belich's "The Princess and the Moon" in 2010 with another large cast of all ages. This promises to be another fun romp into the fantasy world that T. James Belich creates for children from 3 to 103. Get to this show - it's more addictive than angry birds!
Welcome to Antarctica! Home of the South Pole, the world's coldest desert, and the only uninhabited continent on Earth. Uninhabited by you folks, that is.
Lori the penguin here. My brother and sister and I have come to show you all around this charming little continent of ours. At least that was the plan until Bill the leopard seal showed up and threatened to eat us if we don't find the magical Fallen Star that once gave penguins the ability to fly (that's the story, anyway).
Throw in a hyperactive seal, a conniving little skua bird, several hungry carnivores and... Well, if I make it home in time for dinner it'll be a miracle. But along the way we'll share a few of my favorite stories while we do our best to stay off everyone's dinner menu and discover the truth of Why Penguins Can't Fly.

The show is directed by Michael Shoopman. "I thoroughly enjoy putting huge casts together for a larger than life production - using actors of all ages and abilities. With this type of show the only limit is our imagination. The point is fun on both sides of the fourth wall."
